Why saving early pays more

SACCOs pay interest on deposits pro rata: each month's deposit earns only for the months it was in the SACCO that year. Your balance brought forward from last year earns for all 12 months, January's deposit for 12/12 of the year, February's for 11/12, and December's for just 1/12. So KSh 24,000 deposited in January earns more than three times what the same amount spread over July to December earns.

Tax and fees

Interest on deposits and dividends from a SACCO are taxed at 5% withholding tax, deducted before you're paid. Some SACCOs also deduct a processing fee from the payout.

The rates on this page are those each SACCO declared at its AGM; the newest year's rates are set early the following year, so the estimate for 2026 uses the latest declared rates until then. Compare dividend rates across SACCOs.
