Privacy policy

This policy covers saccolink.com. We handle personal data in line with Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019.

What we collect

• Your account: name, email, phone number, SACCO, county, employment status and a password (stored only as a one-way hash). You can add a photo and a short bio.
• Share listings and buy requests: the SACCO, amounts, county and town, and any note you write.
• Guarantor profiles: name, SACCO, county, phone, email and bio.
• Applications to join a SACCO: the details on the form, which include your ID number and monthly income.
• Forum posts and messages you send us, including by WhatsApp.
• Technical data: a session cookie that keeps you logged in, and standard server logs (IP address, pages requested, browser). We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

Who can see it

• Logged-in members can see the name, phone and email on share listings, buy requests and guarantor profiles. That's what those features are for, so only post if you're happy to be contacted.
• Visitors who aren't logged in see share listings and buy requests without contact details, and with only your first name and initial.
• The SACCO you apply to receives your join application by email.
• Our email and hosting providers process data on our behalf so the site can run.
• We don't sell your data. We share it with authorities only when the law requires it.

How we use it

To run your account and the features you use, to forward join applications, to send you messages about your listings and account, and (if you opted in) occasional WhatsApp or email updates. You can opt out of updates at any time by replying STOP or emailing us.

How long we keep it

For as long as your account is open. Listings you delete are removed straight away. If you ask us to close your account we delete your profile, listings, requests and guarantor entry, except where we must keep records for legal reasons.

Your rights

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. Most details can be changed from your account. For anything else, email info@saccolink.com from the address on your account and we'll respond as soon as we can. You can also complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.

Security

Passwords are hashed, the site is served over HTTPS, and database access is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you don't use elsewhere.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top, and tell members by email if the change is significant.
