No guarantor for your SACCO loan? Guarantee each other
New SACCO members often can't borrow because they don't know other members. Here's how members of the same SACCO are finding each other to guarantee each other's loans.
Many SACCOs want guarantors from the same SACCO before they release a loan. New members are often stuck: they have saved for months but don't know anyone else in the SACCO.
Other members are stuck the same way. On SaccoLink's guarantor boards, members of one SACCO find each other and agree to guarantee each other: you cover them, they cover you.
How it works
- Join your SACCO's board with the guarantee you need and how much you can guarantee back from your free deposits.
- See other members of your SACCO. Those who can cover you, and whom you can cover, are marked as a mutual match.
- Ask to connect. Phone numbers are shared only when the other member accepts.
- Meet, check each other's income and record with the SACCO, and sign the SACCO's guarantor forms together.
Know the risk first
If a member you guarantee stops repaying, the SACCO can recover the loan from your deposits, and you may not be able to leave the SACCO until it is cleared. Guaranteeing each other means each of you carries the other's risk. Never pay anyone to be your guarantor, and never pay to be one. Read the risks of being a guarantor before you agree.
